Overview

California has a 2-tier credential structure. A 5-year preliminary credential is the first credential issued after an individual meets basic credential requirements. A clear credential is issued when all credential requirements have been completed.

The Preliminary Administrative Services Credential will provide you with educational leadership skills and knowledge through a variety of coursework and field experiences that are tied to the California Administrator Performance Expectations (CAPEs). Fieldwork experiences will provide you with opportunities to apply new skills, and you will be supervised by university instructors along with your site supervisor.

Cohort Model

Students are admitted in a cohort group each summer. Each cohort includes approximately 20-30 students, all of whom are working professionals in public or private schools or other educational settings. Credential coursework is completed over 3 semesters (summer, fall, and spring). Your cohort is your learning community. Your cohort will also serve as a support system providing encouragement as needed.
