Native Specialty Seminar

Read about the weekly NAISC seminar.

Project students enroll each semester in a weekly Native American specialty seminar.

NAISC Scholars build a strong knowledge base that addresses issues of Native American and Indigenous learners with and without disabilities. They discuss the application of that knowledge to the Native American and Indigenous students at their field sites, and compare issues with those at their home reservations.

Central to the seminar are:

  • Native American and Indigenous education issues
  • Their historical antecedents and current status
  • Traditional knowledge and learning styles
  • Cultural learning models and culturally-appropriate problem solving

The seminar  provides a supportive environment in which to discuss cross-cultural issues arising within classes or field sites.  It also provides students with opportunities to discuss readings and issues, and to plan curriculum.
