The Hub for Effective Teaching and Learning
What do we do?
-
The mission of the Effective Teaching and Learning (ETL) branch of CEED is to design and implement systems to support early childhood providers, children, and families, and to bring evidence-based practices to the field.
-
ETL branch of CEED strives to improve the early childhood workforce to ensure effective teaching and learning and supportive systems for young children, administrators, caregivers, teachers, and families.
How do we do it?
-
By developing and supporting implementation of high-quality behavior guidance policies and practices that can be used to prevent and address challenging behavior in the early years.
-
Improving teaching and learning across the prenatal to third grade continuum; and assessing greater understanding of beliefs and practices surrounding bilingualism and bilingual education.
ETL utilizes several methods in working towards the aforementioned objectives:
-
We strive to bring together key early childhood education stakeholders (San Diego County Office of Education, school districts, Head Start, community based and for-profit child care centers). Collectively we will shape a common vision for what effective teaching and learning should look like in the early years that is based on both research and the resources and priorities of the local context.
-
We provide ongoing professional development to early childhood leaders and practitioners via workshops, coaching, unit bearing coursework through SDSU’s College of Extended Studies, and/or a combination of formats that best meets the needs of our community partners.
-
We conduct applied research and disseminate important findings that will allow for continuous improvement and the identification of promising practices that can be scaled up and shared with the broader research and educational community.
TESTIMONIALS
"Thank you again for everything, most importantly your guidance! And to everyone else on the behavior guidance team, you all should be proud of the work you do for our kiddos and their families. I am going to show off our new guidance policy to the rotary club today! They are going to be so proud.
Thank you!"
